Learn more >

The Charlemagne Way is an hke of about 100 km from Bergamo to Carisolo. This old route owes its name to the legendary passage of Charlemagne through the Camonica Valley, evidence of which can be found in the various churches built at the time and by episodes involving the Christian knights who followed him.

Today, the route is a true journey through the history and art of this surprising valley, famous worldwide for the 8 parks listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

From Bergamo to Trentino Alto Adige: countryside, medieval towns, and rock carvings

The Charlemagne Way starts from the city and includes valleys, lakes, Alpine passes, crossing fascinating landscapes and passing important churches, villages, and historical sites.

Site not to be missed include Lake Moro, a small gem nestled in the mountains above Darfo Boario Terme and the rock carvings in Foppe di Nadro Park and Naquane Park in Capo di Ponte, the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Camonica Valley. The mountains in the Ponte di Legno and Tonale areas are crossed by trails used in World War I, some of which are still used today.

The route is divided into different stages, all sharing the stunning landscapes and a unique sense of peace and tranquillity.
