One of the most important monuments of industrial archaeology in the Brescia area on the banks of the Mella River: come and see the Tavernole smelting furnace!
A 15th-century production facility once used to transfomr the iron ore extracted from the mines of Collio, Bovegno and Pezzaze, the Tavernole Furnace now houses a museum with information boards on the centuries-old history of the furnace and the smelting-related production processes.
The Ganzola Collection on the ground floor features peasant tools, work tools and weapons representative of the noble art of the “ferrarezze” from the 16th to the 19th century. The premises of the nearby municipal library, located between the furnace and the mountain slope, were once used as warehouses for storing ore, coal and finished product.
A stop on the Via del Ferro e delle Miniere dell’Ecomuseo di Valle Trompia. La Montagna e l’Industria (Iron and Mining Tour of the Val Trompia Ecomuseum: Mountain and Industry), the Tavernole Furnace Museum organizes educational activities for young children.
