Lake Garda, the home of water sports
When thinking of Lake Garda kissed by the sun, one’s mind runs to the thousands of colored sails that every summer populate the stretch of water between Campione and Limone sul Garda.
It’s a picturesque image that lets perceive the natural vocation of this area for water sports. In fact, it is known for the constant presence of windy currents throughout the year, an ideal situation for regattas and sailing. It is no coincidence that since 1951 one of the fixed events in Gargnano has been the Centomiglia, the longest-running regatta in Italy which in recent years alone has attracted more than 350 of the world’s best crews.
But the offer of water sports on Lake Garda is constantly growing: besides great classics such as surfing, windsurfing, diving, and canyoning, other trendy disciplines such as kitesurfing, water skiing, water scootering, wakeboarding (the aquatic version of snowboarding) are added. Oh, and don’t forget about parasailing if you’re looking for an exciting parachute flight towed by a boat!
To be updated on the aquatic activities on Lake Garda and the program of initiatives by institutions and schools (with their methods of participation), go to Garda Lombardia: sports on the lake.
Water sports on Lake Idro and Lake Iseo
Much-loved locations for day trips or longer stays, at the beginning of each summer season Lake Idro and Lake Iseo always offer something new to make the most of your active vacations in the open air.
A true paradise for fishing and a perfect place for a quiet dip surrounded by magnificent Alpine scenery and regular winds, Lake Idro has become one of the most important points of reference in the province for the practice of water sports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing: several beaches of Lake Idro have schools with professional instructors and the necessary equipment to carry out activities on the water surface. Also available for rent are motorboats, pedal boats, bicycles, and e-bikes.
Moving to Lake Iseo, you can cherish the landscape from new perspectives by windsurfing, diving, canoeing, or kitesurfing. The Stand up paddle (also known as “S.U.P.”) is the latest water sports craze halfway between canoeing and surfing: it consists of “walking” on the water in an upright position while rowing with a special paddle. An excellent opportunity to let yourself be lulled by the rhythms of nature and abandon the frenzy of everyday life for a few hours.
Do you crave more adventure? For both basins, mountains and lakes offer spectacular settings for engaging in adrenaline-filled activities. Just a few minutes from Lake Idro you can’t miss the Forge Park in Casto, where the past relives with its incredible canyon, walls equipped for climbing, and several itineraries for trekking and MTB. On the Lake Iseo side, in addition to cycling along the Oglio eiver and traveling the wonderful ancient coastal Vello-Toline road, you can spend some time paragliding or hang gliding in complete safety. Breathtaking views await you!
If you are looking for a more intimate and quiet place, a short distance from Lake Iseo we recommend a stop at Lake Moro, a little gem nestled among the Valle Camonica mountains. Take a moment to relax by walking along the routes surrounding the basin or rent a pedal boat or a boat to go and discover the area with the highest concentration of biodiversity in Europe!
