Open all year round and accessible by car, the Rifugio Monte Stino is the ideal place for sports lovers : here you can go Nordic walking, cycling, mountain biking, motorbikes, quads, paragliding, cross-country skiing (approved 5km loop) or just spend a day in the open air.
To get to the Rifugio Monte Stino (1437m above sea level), from Capovalle (BS) follow the signs for Monte Stino (about 4.5km) and then reach the refuge.
What to see on Mount Stino
Mount Stino is located between Lake Idro and Lake Garda: just 5 minutes away from the refuge you will enjoy breathtaking views, and you can visit a small museum of World War I set up in two tunnels dug at the time of the conflict, where several cannons were placed.
Plenty of well-maintained mule tracks allow hikers to walk on the slopes choosing the most suitable route.
Recommended itineraries
We particularly recommend the itinerary from Capovalle (Zumiè hamlet) to the summit: from the Zumiè hamlet, proceed for about one kilometre on a narrow dirt road that leads to a convenient car park near a picnic area.
Leave the car and follow the signs for M. Stino (trail no. 454) on a very well-maintained flat mule track. After about an hour you reach the locality Le Piazze (1026 m), here you take trail no. 456 that heads east, always between steep slopes with wooded sections that allow you to glimpse the lake.
After about 30 minutes you cross another trail, ignore it and continue until you enter a wood. The trail, with first longer and then closer bends, takes you to the refuge in about 2 hours.
