Opened in 2018, the MarteS – Museo d’Arte Sorlini in Calvagese della Riviera is the prestigious art gallery enriching the artistic heritage of Lake Garda and the province of Brescia.
It houses priceless works collected by entrepreneur and art lover Luciano Sorlini, now entirely available to the public in an elegant 17th-century palace.
MarteS, masterpieces of the Venetian 18th century from Tiepolo to Canaletto
The MarteS boasts a rich collection of the best Venetian painters of the 18th century.
Tiepolo, Canaletto, Giovanni Bellini, Ricci, and Guardi dominate the scene with outstanding works including Giovanni Bellini’s Madonna and Gianantonio Guardi’s cycle of 6 large canvases. The Venetian school is flanked by great names from Lombardy including Pitocchetto, Savoldo, Bramantino, and Palma Il Vecchio, to give rise to an incredible artistic proof that is now public heritage at the behest of its own owner, Luciano Sorlini, a Brescian entrepreneur who died in 2015.
The MarteS holds 154 paintings acquired by Sorlini himself in over 50 years of passionate research, plus other renowned works that Luciano Sorlini’s descendants wished to deposit among those specifically assigned to the museum by the entrepreneur, for a grand total of 180 works of exceptional relevance.
The exhibition itinerary is divided into 14 rooms over an area of more than 1,000 square meters and is housed in the monumental representative rooms that flank those of Luciano’s actual residence, currently the headquarters of the Foundation named after him. It is an ancient 17th-century palace, distinguished by scenic architectural choices, and is located in Carzago, a splendid inland Garda resort and hamlet of Calvagese della Riviera.
