Art and culture in Pisogne
Did you know that Pisogne is mentioned in the most important art history books? In fact, the town is home to one of the art masterpieces of Girolamo Romanino, among the greatest Brescian painters of the Italian Renaissance.
We’re talking about the extraordinary cycle of frescoes on the Passion of Christ preserved in the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, which has earned the small, now deconsecrated place of worship the nickname ‘poor man’s Sistine Chapel’. You’ll find out why once you’re inside!
From the 16th century to the present day, Pisogne has opened up to contemporary art with Mirad’Or, the innovative floating pavilion recently inaugurated near the medieval port. Built on a pile-dwelling, the small museum on the water catches the eye with its rigorous architectural form and large windows that allow a glimpse, day and night, of the works of art that will be hosted there and the magnificent surrounding landscape. The project aims to make Pisogne a must-see stop for those transiting Lake Iseo as well as for national and international protagonists of new trends in the figurative arts.
Sports and relaxation by the lake
Are biking, hiking and walking your passion? You are in the right place!
Pisogne boasts one of the most evocative bike/pedestrian paths in Italy: the Vello-Toline route, an ancient coastal road completely flat, now redeveloped for the passage of cyclists and pedestrians. 5 km of pure enjoyment at the water’s edge against the backdrop of the sunlit lake and the silhouette of the towns on the Bergamo side of the basin. Once in Vello, you can continue in the direction of Marone and Sale Marasino, or turn around and ride this spectacular trail again!
Those who are die-hard fans of mountain peaks shouldn’t miss the trek to Corna Trentapassi, a beautiful panoramic route that culminates with an exclusive view over the entire Lake Iseo! The route begins near the little church of Govine and runs largely along the paths of the Antica Strada Valeriana, through mule tracks and woods, passing through the tiny hamlet of Sedergnò.
Other outdoor sporting activities near Pisogne include summer walks and picnics and having fun in the snow in Val Palot, among the most popular local destinations for ski and snowshoe enthusiasts.
