Renowned Garda excellence, the Valtènesi wines tell a story of tradition, love of the land, and authentic flavor.

This appellation embraces several unique types of wine led by the famous Chiaretto – the pink wine from the western shore of Lake Garda – and Groppello: are you ready to be won over by their unmistakable aroma?

The Valtènesi and its wines: evolution and curiosities

Fruity and floral hints, intense and distinctive flavor, spicy notes, almondy aftertaste. A variety of adjectives in ever-changing combinations describes the wines of the Valtènesi, each characterized by its own soul for an ensemble capable of accompanying your best moments at the table, from appetizers to desserts.

They tell a story of tradition, but also of evolutions. Until 2016 in addition to Valtènesi DOC there were Riviera del Garda Bresciano and Garda Classico wines, while from 2017 the single DOC ‘Riviera del Garda Classico’ was established, which, embellished by the appellation Valtènesi, combines the previous appellations in a new great wine project.

So today, in addition to Valtènesi and Valtènesi Chiaretto, we can taste the delicacy of Riviera del Garda Classico in the claret, white, red and superior red variants. Wines protected by the Valtènesi Consortium also include Benaco Bresciano Riesling and San Martino della Battaglia.

Morainic hills, Lake Garda and Groppello. A unique heritage in the world

The peculiarities of Riviera del Garda Classico and Valtènesi wines are inextricably linked to their area of production. Situated between the morainic hills and the southern Brescian Riviera of Lake Garda, the Valtènesi has the unexceptionable advantage of directly enjoying the Mediterranean microclimate typical of these areas, which has always influenced Garda’s agricultural production (just think of the lemon houses). Added to this is the cultivation of Groppello, a great native grape variety exclusive to this area that is still tended by manual methods.

It is precisely Groppello that distinguishes the wines of Valtènesi, particularly Chiaretto: in fact, Valtènesi Chiaretto is made predominantly from the indigenous ‘Groppello Gentile’ grape, which can be used up to 100 percent of the total blend.

Events and experiences

Engaged in a relentless work of enhancement and promotion, the Valtènesi Consortium organizes several wine-related events with the aim of raising awareness of the valuable territorial offer. Among the most interesting shows is The Polpenazze del Garda Wine Fair, Valtènesi in Rosa in Moniga del Garda, and the wine and food itineraries of Profumi di mosto.
