Church of Santa Maria della Neve

Learn more >

Among the historical-artistic gems not to be missed in Pisogne, the Church of Santa Maria della Neve houses the important 16th-century fresco cycle on the life of Christ painted by Girolamo Romanino, one of the most celebrated Brescian painters of all time.

Visitors are totally enveloped by this tale in images, whose impressiveness and intensity of pictorial realism earned the Church the name “Sistine Chapel of the poor”.

Built in the late 15th century, the Church occupied a strategic position along the Antica Strada Valeriana: the porticoes erected in the early 16th century leaning against the main body served to shelter and welcome pilgrims.
