Rocca di Manerba

Experiencing the thrill of the outdoors doesn’t have to mean strenuous effort or travelling hundreds of miles. A great example is Rocca di Manerba: this important archaeological site and strategic point overlooking the lake is only a short walk away.

How to reach Rocca di Manerba

Rocca di Manerba is very close to Desenzano. Follow the strada statale (A road) in the direction of Salò, turn right at the crossroads in Manerba to Solarolo, then follow the signs for ‘Rocca’.

Leave the car in the large gravel car park, then follow the easy trail suitable for all ages to the archaeological area and the panoramic spot by the cross. Once you reach the top, you can also descend towards the coast.

The cross on Rocca di Manerba is one of the best panoramic spots over Lake Garda, with views of Isola dei Conigli, Isola del Garda, the port of San Felice, Gulf of Salò, Mount Baldo, and all the coastal towns.

It is an intense feeling, as you take in the beauty of the lake and the reflections of the surrounding mountains.

The exceptional archaeological park and museum collection

As you climb up to the top of the Rocca, you will see the recently excavated medieval fortifications. Along the way, there is an archaeological museum displaying numerous natural artifacts and findings from old settlements. The museum boasts a wonderful glass wall that creates a door for natural light and continuity with the surrounding environment.

The area is surrounded by the wonderful natural landscape of the Natural Reserve of Rocca and Sasso, Parco Lacuale, the archaeological park and museum, and a variety of hiking trails.

When is the best time to visit? All year round. Given the fantastic view, we recommend visiting on a clear day.
